Heavy rainfall over the weekend has triggered flooding in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, after the La Montada dyke overflowed, inundating residential streets, damaging homes and sweeping away vehicles.
Viory Drone footage captured on Monday showed floodwaters flowing through residential areas of the border city following rainfall exceeding 25 millimetres.
Mayor Héctor Rafael Ortiz said at least eight vehicles had been swept away by the strong currents, while another 40 cars were affected by the flooding. Authorities reported no fatalities in the latest official update.
The Government of Chihuahua has provided emergency assistance to 150 affected families, including bedding and cleaning supplies, as recovery efforts continue.
Drainage operations, infrastructure repairs and road-clearing activities are also underway to restore affected areas and improve access for residents.
Meanwhile, state-run canteens and community centres have been opened to provide food and temporary shelter for people affected by the floods.
Authorities continue to support affected communities as cleanup and recovery operations progress.
