Uganda and Kenya Seek Stronger Tourism Ties at 5th Coast Tourism and Innovation Summit

Uganda and Kenya are exploring new opportunities to strengthen tourism cooperation, improve regional connectivity and accelerate sector growth at the ongoing 5th Uganda–Kenya Coast Tourism and Innovation Summit in Mombasa.

The summit, hosted at Sarova Whitesands, brings together tourism stakeholders to discuss innovative approaches to tourism development, with a focus on technology, youth participation, policy solutions and cross-border travel.

Uganda is represented by a delegation led by Minister of State Hon. Susan Nakawuki, alongside partner ministries, departments and agencies, including the Uganda Wildlife Authority, Private Sector Foundation Uganda, Uganda Media Centre, Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Uganda Tourism Association, Uganda Hotel Owners Association and Uganda Tourism Board.

A key focus of the meeting is addressing travel bottlenecks and connectivity challenges between Uganda and Kenya, which can affect the movement of tourists and limit the full potential of regional tourism.

Participants are also exploring how innovation and technology can improve tourism services, strengthen partnerships and create opportunities for young people to participate in the sector.

The summit underscores the importance of regional collaboration in positioning Uganda and Kenya as more connected and competitive tourism destinations, while supporting economic growth and sustainable tourism development across East Africa.
