The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has launched a nationwide blood donation campaign targeting 3,000 units across its 15 operational territories as part of its October Customer Experience Month activities.
Held under the theme “The Extra Mile,” the initiative brings together UEDCL, the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service and the Uganda Red Cross Society to strengthen Uganda’s blood supply and support patients in need of transfusions.

Speaking at the launch, representatives from the blood services organisations called for sustained public participation, noting that regular donations are essential to meet demand for medical emergencies, surgery, childbirth complications and blood-related conditions.

Representing the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service, Mr Mugisha reported that annual blood collection had increased from 460,000 to approximately 475,000 units. Meanwhile, Uganda Red Cross Society Secretary General Robert Kwesiga emphasised the importance of year-round donation drives and stronger community partnerships.

UEDCL urged eligible staff, customers and members of the public to participate, describing the campaign as part of its wider commitment to community welfare beyond electricity distribution.
The drive will be coordinated by UEDCL’s Customer Experience and Corporate Affairs teams in collaboration with territory managers and community partners.
